McIntosh Apple – is a medium size, red skinned apple sometimes brushed with green. This apple is cold hardy down to at least 30 below. McIntosh is an all-purpose apple, suitable for both fresh eating and baking. I think it would make a good cider too. Flavor can vary from tart to quite sweet, depending on when harvested. This variety develops the best flavor when grown in cold climates, which is another reason it's a great choice for Wyoming. Although best fresh off the tree, it stores for 2-3 months in the cellar. Gala is a good pollinator that flowers at the right time. Although, interestingly, crab-apple trees also make great pollinators for full-size apple trees.
